Lake Ontario Fishing Reports

Your Lake Ontario Fishing Experience:

Lake Ontario, one of North America's Great Lakes, captivates with its vast expanse of shimmering waters and rich biodiversity, drawing in fishing enthusiasts from far and wide. In recent years, reports from both Tin Missile Trophy Sportsfishing and the expertise of Captain Brian Swartz have provided valuable insights into the lake's fish populations, depths, and the safety of consuming its prized catches.

We get these questions a lot. Does Lake Ontario have a lot of fish? How deep is Lake Ontario? Is fish from Lake Ontario safe to eat? Well, Lake Ontario boasts a diverse array of fish species, including trout, salmon, bass, and perch, making it a popular destination for anglers. With a maximum depth of approximately 802 feet (244 meters), Lake Ontario ranks among the deepest of the Great Lakes, offering ample habitat for various aquatic species. However, due to industrial pollution and contaminants, including PCBs and heavy metals, fish from Lake Ontario may contain elevated levels of toxins, prompting advisories on consumption. Nonetheless, with proper precautions and adherence to advisories, enjoying fish from Lake Ontario can still be safe.

Tin Missile Trophy Sportsfishing stands as a beacon of angling excellence on Lake Ontario, offering unparalleled experiences and comprehensive data on the lake's fish populations. Through their expeditions, they gather crucial information on the abundance and distribution of various species, contributing to our understanding of the lake's ecosystem dynamics. Additionally, the expertise of Captain Brian Swartz, a seasoned guide with years of experience navigating Lake Ontario's waters, lends invaluable perspectives on the lake's depths, topography, and the behavior of its aquatic inhabitants. His firsthand observations and insights provide essential context for anglers and researchers alike, shaping our appreciation of this majestic body of water.

Fall Bass Action Heating Up on Lake Ontario fishing report coverpicture

June 25, 2026

Lake Ontario - Monroe, NY Lake Report on 25th Jun, 2026 - 1

Action is starting to heat up in the eastern basin, yesterday we lost quite a few big fish but managed to land a walleye and some slammer bass with one that was almost 23” but weighed only 5lb 11oz. Today we struggled to find the fish where we left off yesterday, also made a move inside where we really marked them inside but the wind increased so much we couldn’t keep clean from the weeds. Got a call from a buddy he hit a few bass outside and honestly it was where I planned on going first thing and we fired a ton of rods, lots of shorts but squeezed off a limit of bass, also got bit off by a heavy fish I’m guessing was a walleye. Overall it was a beautiful weekend on Lake Ontario, especially in October. Have October 19th open afternoon November: weather permitting of course 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th #captainbrianswartz #tinmissile #walleye #pikefishing #browntroutfishing #lakeontario

Sackets Harbor Fishing Report fishing report coverpicture

April 26, 2024

Sackets Harbor - Jefferson, NY Lake Report on 26th Apr, 2024

Had an incredible time on Lake Ontario this Sunday with a fantastic group of guys! We experienced some fantastic Lake Trout action using a spoon and flasher fly pattern in depths ranging from 38 to 44 feet. Initially, we aimed for some Brown Trout, but due to the north wind, the water was exceptionally clear with little color, resulting in sparse bites. We contemplated heading south, but decided to stick it out, and it paid off with three Brown Trout catches, including one that measured over 27 inches! We kept some of the Brown Trout along with a few of the Lakers for a delicious meal—they're excellent when properly processed and cooked. Now is the perfect time for some near-shore fishing, promising exciting action. Investing in a memorable day on the lake doesn't require a significant expense! We offer both 8-hour and 5-hour trips.
